Survey: Artificial Intelligence, Computational Thinking and Learning

Learning is central to both artificial intelligence and human intelligence, the former focused on understanding how machines learn, latter concerned with humans learn. With growing relevance of computational thinking, these two efforts have become more closely connected. This survey examines connections points need for educating general public understand challenges which increasing integration AI in lives pose. We describe three different framings thinking: cognitive, situated, critical. Each framing offers valuable, but insights into what thinking can should be. The differences between also concern views learning that they embody. combine one framework emphasizes (1) activities involve engagement algorithmic processes, (2) mere use a digital artifact an activity not sufficient count as thinking. further present set approaches argue significance regards counts: (i) Human developers create develop systems, (ii) learn enrich (iii) such enriched systems will be explainable. conclude introduction articles included Special Issue, focusing call upon themes this survey.
